Societal Trends: The Social Cause

Social causes are becoming more trend worthy than result oriented. They make lots of noise and for our businesses, it is easy to feel the pressure to take a stand, but don’t. Seriously 99.9% of the time, don’t do or say anything. Here is why.


It is not because the cause isn’t great or important or matter. But these social causes are volatile storms that you do not control. The media decides who is the villain and who is the good guy, not you and not morality. 


The other reason why you need to stay far far away from the social cause societal trend is because of the people. If you aren’t leading the fight, and even if you are, the people who also speak out on the causes behalf can and do say some dumb things. 


And these dumb things become your dumb things. Yep, dumb by association.


So no matter how amazing of a cause it is, if it is not directly related to your business, be Switzerland. It isn’t worth losing your business because the social cause tide turned on you.
